| This page is dedicated in memory of Julie Burgess Ward, MSW, ACSW. Julie began her work with DVSAS starting in February 2000 as the SA Prevention Specialist, Advocate and Therapist. However, she helped in the planning for the San Juan Perpetrator's Treatment Training for 52 therapists, advocates and counselors in 1999. At DVSAS she developed many projects some of them being the Sexual Assault Survivor's Handbook, Children's SA Booklet for Elementary School Children, Flush Out Sexual Violence Bathroom Campaign and she was instrumental in developing and coordinating the Lopez Advisory Health Board & School Curriculum. Julie included this quote in the Sexual Assault Survivors Handbook: “When we come to the edge of all the light we have and must take a step into the darkness of the unknown we must believe one of two things: either we will find something firm to stand on, or we will be taught to fly.” Unknown
Julie did just that, she decided to take the leap and work on Lopez and spend more time with her family after working 10 years with North Islands Mental Health. Julie died of lung cancer in May, 2003 and I know, Julie did learn to fly in her precious last years. We miss you. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
