| DVSAS offers Advocacy-Based Counseling to victims of domestic violence & sexual assault/abuse. Advocacy-Based counseling is based on the Empowerment Model which encourages clients that they have the ability to change and make decisions appropriate for their children and their own well being. Advocates assist clients with creating safety planning and problem solving as well as support with self-esteem issues, housing, legal, medical, finances and basic ongoing support as client needs and desires. All advocates are required to take an initial 42 hour training and an additional 35 hours annually both in domestic violence and sexual assault/abuse
